I approached the Chichester office of Irwin Mitchell in good faith, for the purposes of obtaining a new Will.
Before any meeting took place, I was required first to place money ‘on account’.
After a meeting, I received a draft Will which ran to some 19 pages , which I felt was excessive for a straightforward Will.
For this, I expended a total sum of £3,787.20, a not inconsiderable sum.
Indeed this ‘Will’, was apparently derived from a template as I subsequently discovered. It was littered with clauses which were irrelevant to myself and other clauses which were entirely contrary to both my interests and those of my beneficiaries.
Indeed my beneficiaries were not even mentioned by name in the Will.
I did bring this to the attention of the officers at the Chichester office, who repeatedly suggested that I could ‘elevate my concerns to the firm’s Client Care division, or the Legal Ombudsman’ if I so wished.
I advised them that I did not wish to follow this path, as, in my opinion, all that was required was simple acceptance that as far as I was concerned the Will was not fit for purpose and so a simple refund would be appropriate.
They decided otherwise, and forwarded my ‘complaint’ to their Client Care division.
After some weeks I received a lengthy response from their Client Care division correcting an unjust additional charge added to my account of £319.20 and an additional sum of £200 as a ‘gesture of goodwill’ provided I did not approach the Legal Ombudsman.
Thus I ended up having expended a net sum of £3,268 for which I received nothing of value in return; no Will, just considerable dissatisfaction, stress and anger.
I believe the Modus Operandi of this firm to be deeply flawed, bordering on fraudulent. Their treatment of me as their client was both disrespectful and disingenuous, and I believe that they had no right to obtain and subsequently to retain the £3,268 paid to them.

This is our first year with Irwin Mitchell and we have been really delighted with the service provided by Suzanne and Anisha.
Our tax returns have been completed months earlier than they were with our previous accountants. We are also set up for MTD which is a huge relief.

My experience with Irwin Mitchell has been positive from start to finish, my mother had just died and I was involved in a very upsetting family situation. I was recommended Irwin Mitchell by a wonderful friend.
The first person I spoke to was Henry Lane, he was so kind to me and started this wonderful relationship I now have with three people at Irwin Mitchell.
Michelle Chapman was the first wonderful solicitor that helped me. She is professional, experienced, knowledgeable and most importantly kind. In January Marie Newton took over my case and is also professional, experienced, knowledgeable and most importantly kind. These ladies have explained everything to me and they have been so patient and have always been mindful of my mental wellbeing. I really cannot thank them enough, I will always be grateful to them. POSSIBLE CRIMINALITY. My mother used the HSBC will writing service and left her will with Irwin Mitchell for safe keeping.
I believe that my mother’s will was in an ex partner’s file until 2001 when I believe it was given a file of its own.
When my mother passed away, myself and the other beneficiaries were victims of crime, that being inheritance fraud although Irwin Mitchell were not involved in this and had no knowledge of it at the time.
Having since been made aware of this situation, Irwin Mitchell for years claimed they couldn’t find anything in my mother’s name yet recently admitted holding a will in my mother’s name in a file created in 2001.
We also now have proof from Irwin Mitchell themselves that they have lied about this matter, we assume to cover it up.
If that 2001 file is my mother’s will which would explain why Irwin Mitchell have lied about it, then certain solicitors at Irwin Mitchell could be themselves committing a criminal offence that being, “Obstructing the Course of Justice” by their inaction.
This is when you know a crime has been committed and know that you hold evidence that would resolve the matter and bring justice to the victims but choose to turn a “blind eye”
It just needs someone to pull that 2001 file from archives and confirm what we believe it to be and this would allay any suspicion of criminality and exonerate all persons completely.
Meanwhile, my late mother continues to lie officially intestate and our inheritance remains firmly in the hands of those who stole it in the first place.
