I write further as a black ethnic minority mixed race transgender to our recent discussion. I wish to set out my position with precision and transparency, so there is no misunderstanding as to the basis upon which I now proceed.

First, I confirm that I will be withdrawing my guilty pleas and will be making the appropriate application under the Criminal Procedure Rules 1996, Part 25. The rules exist to ensure fairness, and they must be followed. The court is entitled to review all relevant material, including CCTV evidence, at any stage where justice requires it. The suggestion that the judge “does not need to see the CCTV” is inconsistent with the purpose of disclosure and the statutory framework governing criminal proceedings.

Second, during our conversation you stated that “what is on paper and what is done in person are two different things.” With respect, that cannot be correct. The law is not ornamental. It is not a mere backdrop to be ignored when inconvenient. The written law guides the conduct of the court, the parties, and the police. To disregard the law in favour of informal impressions would be to replace principle with arbitrariness. As Lord Denning himself often emphasised, the law must be applied as written, for it is the law that governs us all.

Third, when I raised the Equality Act 2010, Section 20, regarding reasonable adjustments, you responded, “you’re not disabled.” That is not a conclusion you are entitled to reach. Whether a person has a disability, or requires adjustments, is not determined by appearance or assumption. It is a matter of fact, assessment, and legal protection. The question should not be dismissed out of hand.

Fourth, regarding the events leading to my arrest, you stated that it had “nothing to do with race.” Respectfully, neither you nor I can assert that as an objective fact without evidence. What I can say is that my cultural manner of expression was misinterpreted, and that the police failed to communicate clearly when I asked for the grounds of arrest or when I requested my handbag. A simple, calm explanation from them could have avoided escalation. These matters go to context, fairness, and proportionality.

Finally, I wish to make clear that my decision to withdraw my pleas is not based on any allegation that you “forced” me to plead guilty. Rather, it is based on my mental state at the time, the pressure I was under, and the fact that material evidence—such as the CCTV—must be properly considered.

Given the above, and your indication that you no longer feel able to represent me, I will proceed to handle the matter myself until alternative representation is arranged.

As Lord Denning would have emphasized, the law as written must be followed; otherwise, we drift into arbitrariness.

In the spirit of transparency, and of course in full compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, Part 3, I will be making a measured public comment regarding the nature of our discussions today. This is not to cast blame but simply to ensure that the public is aware of how this process is being handled. All shared details will remain confidential as required by law, but it is in the interest of clarity that I note the firm's approach in this matter.
