We were recommended Thatcher & Hallam for conveyancing by our estate agent.

My partner contacted them to instruct them on a Thursday and didn’t receive a response until the following Tuesday. When they did reply, the response was unhelpful. A week later, we still hadn’t heard anything further, aside from a slightly snotty email saying they were busy and asking us not to contact them. Not a great impression. As of today, they still haven’t come back to confirm.

As a result, our buyer was left waiting over a week for us simply to confirm basic conveyancer details for the memorandum of sale. This made us look disorganised and could easily have put our sale at risk.

The estate agent who originally recommended them ultimately advised us to abort and go elsewhere. The new conveyancer they recommended replied and got it sorted within an hour - and even replied out of office hours.

If they can’t be bothered to respond at the very start of the process, I dread to think how responsive they would be during the actual conveyancing. We also made it clear that we had another sale and a purchase coming up, so they’ve effectively lost out on two sales and a purchase due to being so slow, unprofessional and unresponsive in even getting themselves instructed.

I’d strongly recommend avoiding them and choosing another firm that actually wants new conveyancing customers.

EDIT: Following reply, to confirm this was not over a bank holiday as the firm suggests in their reply to this review. Even if it was, one day does not excuse over a week of delay. Please just accept responsibility for your poor administration gracefully.

I attended a free legal advice clinic in January this year and the advice was that I was highly likely to win my case against a difficult Customer of mine. However, this turned out to be completely incorrect and costly for me following my recent hearing in the County Court. I had outlined all the facts of my case very thoroughly to the Solicitor I saw at Thatcham & Hallam and used them to put before the County Court but it didn’t get me anywhere. Rather than say I was highly likely to win my case I would have preferred a more accurate and realistic legal opinion of the pitfalls of me going ahead with County Court action to avoid the unnecessary expense of me trying to recover an unpaid invoice.
