Freers Askew Bunting were the solicitor / conveyancer for the sale of our house in London. They did a very thorough and professional job and were a pleasure to deal with. They also gave us some valuable advice on a house we were looking to purchase.

We decided to use a local conveyancing firm for the purchase of our first house and ended up appointing Freers Askew Bunting (FAB) Solicitors in Guisborough... What a mistake!

After a conversation with their very friendly Legal Secretary, we received confirmation of our conveyancing instructions and were allocated a conveyancer almost immediately. We were instructed to wait for further correspondence in the post and/or contact from our conveyancer, James Walmsley. We never recieved any contact within a week, and despite a number of chasers, we never heard anything over the next fortnight. We chased once more and their receptionist informed us that a different solicitor was now handling our purchase.

A few days later, we were contacted by the seller's Estate Agent to say the seller is also using FAB Solicitors, so one of us may need to change solicitors in order to complete the purchase. The 'Memo of Sale' was sent to FAB Solicitors on the same day our offer was accepted (2/3 weeks ago), so neither of us knew why they took so long to identify a potential conflict.

We contacted FAB Solicitors requesting an urgent telephone call, but instead recieved a very insincere apology from Mr Walmsley saying they could no longer represent us - despite us appointing them before the sellers. Very dissappointing service, to say the least, especially since we found out through the seller's Estate Agent.

Unfortunately our problems did not stop there, as they were still representing the seller on their sale, which caused us to lose even more time (at least a further 3 weeks) due to their inability to answer some fairly straight forward questions about the property. Some of which related to documents that we were able to source within half an hour.

Buying your first home is stressful enough, so unless you want things to be made more difficult due to the incompetency of FAB Solicitors, I would highly recommend you avoid this company and go somewhere else.

FAB Solicitors? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Professional friendly and efficient what more can I say 👍 I have used them to facilitate deals and conveyancing and would recommend to anyone needing solicitors services.

So far I am extremely disappointed with Freers Askew Bunting. Their communication is appalling and we have been assigned a solicitor who leaves the office at 3.00pm every day. So if you need to speak to them or see them make sure it’s before 3.00pm. Maybe this is fine for the common criminal or unemployed but as a couple who both work full time this is totally useless.
I wouldn’t recommend them or use them again.
