I experienced something really upsetting today. It honestly shocked me because I’m usually able to stand up for myself, but I’m 9 months pregnant and the whole situation completely overwhelmed me.

I had a car fine that I appealed. In order to do this, a solicitor needed to sign and date both a PE2 and a PE3 form. Without both forms properly signed and dated, you can’t proceed with the appeal if you’ve missed the original deadline. I paid the solicitor £20 to witness the documents, and he stamped and dated them.

I sent the forms off, but they were returned because he had forgotten to sign and date the PE3 form. So I went back to him to have it corrected. Instead of simply fixing the mistake, he started shouting at me. He was extremely angry and aggressive, and it genuinely felt like he wanted to argue or fight with me. I was so confused — especially considering I am heavily pregnant and the issue was only a £20 witnessing fee. If he had asked me to pay again, I would have done so without hesitation.

His colleagues had to step in and tell him to leave the room because of how he was behaving. They understood what had happened and tried to apologise on his behalf, but by that point I was already very upset. One of the women there didn’t even want to take payment again, but I didn’t want him thinking I expected anything for free — even though the mistake wasn’t mine and I had already paid. So I paid again and left immediately.

The whole experience was traumatising and incredibly unprofessional. I’m honestly shocked that someone in his position would behave that way. I would never treat anyone like that, especially someone who is heavily pregnant and simply trying to correct a mistake that wasn’t their fault.
