What should have been a straight forward house purchase turned into 6 months of chasing.
Calls which were meant to be made, weren't. Emails not replied too. Convinced completion documents had been sent, they hadn't. Along with so many other issues.
The quickest response I had was chasing me for money 2 hours after the completion statement was sent.
In addition, I had an email on the day of completion to say we can't complete because £x is pending payment, I told them I sent it last week and they hadn't even checked.
Sent my solicitor an email after completion, asking a few questions. That was a week ago with no response.
Lots of Admin, chasing and liaising from my end. Took 6 months to complete on a property where the chain was only our two houses.

We used Askews for the part exchange of our house and they were brilliant. Sian and Jo were quick to reply to any email I sent and to answer all the questions I had. They chased the other party too and it felt like they just had everything under control at all times. This is our second time buying a house and Askews made the process much less stressful that the first time we went through the process with another firm. Thanks Sian and Jo! 😊

I highly recommend Askews Solicitors in Middlesbrough to anyone in a similar situation.
As a first-time buyer, part of my deposit came from Sri Lanka as a gift from my parents, which made the process more complex. Initially, I worked with Hewitts Solicitors, but unfortunately, we faced several challenges due to a lack of clear guidance on the documentation required, particularly around proving proof of the source of funds.
In contrast, the team at Askews Solicitors was outstanding. Emma Burns provided clear, structured instructions on exactly what was needed, making the process far more manageable. Special recognition goes to Kirstie Parmer, who acted as a key point of contact between Emma and us, ensuring everything progressed smoothly and efficiently.
Looking back, had we instructed Askews Solicitors from the beginning, I am confident the transaction would have completed in under three months. Instead, we lost valuable time with our previous firm.
Overall, an excellent, professional service—highly recommended. 👏👏👏

Buying my first property with them, used them because I called for quotes and they called me back asking if I was sorted and seemed good at what they do. I bought my house in January with no chain and it is still not close to completion as far as I am aware, they don’t give you an update for weeks, when you chase one there not available they rarely call you back and when they do it’s someone else’s fault and not theirs. If you question them on the service they provide they are happy to tell you to just go elsewhere if you’re not happy. They needed a ID check which they spelt the surname wrong on despite it been on all the paper work they then blamed my dad for mis spelling his surname wrong and wanted to charge again for the ID check after back n forth I spoke to management who by the way are quite happy to rectify and offer good customer service it’s just a same about the other staff. It is Sian I have been dealing with, I wouldn’t recommend using. I still await my final bill from them and can only imagine that this will more than likely be more than they have originally quoted.

After my wife died I decided to sell our commercial property. Our family business had been located there and this was an emotional and stressful situation.
The High Street building consisted of one shop, one tea room and two flats. Four tenants with three different types of tenancy agreements.
I mistakenly, possibly foolishly, thought this would be straight forward.
After receiving a very competitive estimate from Askews, I confirmed their appoitment and paid 50% deposit.
I was pleased that my estate agent also recommended them.
Having accepted an offer to purchase the property, Askews prepared the paperwork.
Four weeks later the buyer withdrew.
A new buyer was found, however they ran into numerous problems with their lender. This resulted in additional legal work.
I am very grateful that the buyers remained commited to purchasing and a new lender was found.
The conveyencing became complex. frustrating and stressful.
I am very grateful to all the staff at Askews.
They managed the situation and with great skill, remaining supportive and empathetic to my situation following the loss of my wife.
On completion I received my final invoice. Despite all the extra work that had been undertaken, the price was, as quoted.
In 1976 Askews completed the conveyencing of my first house. Fifty years later they continue to provide the same outstanding service.
