I do not usually leave Google reviews, but on this occasion I feel compelled to share my experience.

During my dealings with Paul Dodds Law, I was made aware of an alleged remark attributed to Mrs Helen Locke concerning a medical note issued by a qualified doctor. I found the reported comment to be both intimidating and highly inappropriate. Although I understand the statement may have originated from her client, Mrs Locke declined to confirm or deny whether the remark was made.

Paul Dodds Law states on its website that it supports victims of domestic abuse and their children, and that it provides a safe space for survivors to seek help. Unfortunately, this commitment was not reflected in my experience. Rather than feeling supported or protected, I found the situation deeply upsetting.

In particular, I was concerned by the apparent dismissal of the opinion of a qualified medical professional. It was alleged that a comment was made suggesting that solicitors know more than doctors. If this statement was indeed made, I believe it was both inappropriate and inconsistent with the firm’s stated values. In my view, such remarks risk compounding the distress experienced by victims of abuse.

I gave the firm an opportunity to address the matter and deny that these comments were made. However, they declined to do so, citing legal confidentiality, despite my understanding that their client had waived confidentiality in relation to this issue and made the claim themselves. I find it difficult to understand why a solicitor would not simply deny making what I perceive to be unprofessional, threatening and abusive remarks if they had not been made?

To be fair, I have not previously found Mrs Locke to be intimidating or unprofessional during several court proceedings, which is why this incident came as a surprise.

If you are seeking legal support as a survivor of domestic abuse, I would personally consider other options. In my experience, if the alleged comments are accurate, the conduct does not align with the firm’s stated commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals.

Overall, I felt this matter was handled without the professionalism, sensitivity, and care that such circumstances require.
