Acorn used to be a good firm, best avoided now though, customer service is non-existent.

Edit and update: these are not allegations but a review of the conduct of your solicitor during the purchasing process that occured a couple of years ago, it haunts me to this day seeing how uncooperative, unprofessional and rude he was. Of course I am not making an allegations that he on purpose delayed the process but I genuinely don't understand why he acted so unwilling and unprofessional otherwise, it makes no sense and it clearly delayed the process of the sale. So I decided to review and warn others as it is stressful enough to buy a house and to have to deal with such service by conveyancers adds to the distress.

Absolutely disgraceful solicitors! Neil Watson is arrogant and beyond unprofessional. I was shocked to read the responses he provided. He seems to act like someone who is stuck in time 20+ years ago refusing to get up to speed with modern times. He clearly delayed the sale of a property by 6months in his own interest to charge the clients more of his time by continuously acting ignorant. Please keep away - nobody should be treated like Acorn treat their clients and the other parties involved in the sales process.

My wife and I are existing customers of Acorn Solicitors having used their conveyancer Neil Watson on a number of occasions, who has been outstanding in every respect.

When it came for us to update our existing wills we didn't hesitate to book a consultation with Acorn Solicitors to discuss our requirements.

I have to say that this was probably one of the most bizarre experiences of our lives which resulted in us being ushered out of the office 20 minutes into the free 30 minute consultation period.

We expected to be able to ask specific questions which relate to our particular circumstances so that we could go away, discuss a way forward and then come back with instructions.

It was made clear to us at the outset that Gill did not want to discuss anything about out particular circumstances unless we instructed her. We therefore had to talk hypothetically in an attempt to get a number of questions answered.

It was a difficult conversation where she either said she didn't know, or skated around a number of issues, even saying that she didn't want to get into detail as it was late in the day!

Part of the discussion was around tenants in common and what over arching control trustees have over the life tenant, at which point she asked why we wanted the trustee to break the law? To the contrary, we were asking whether the trustee had to follow the wishes of those making the will.

During the discussion Gill become agitated, defensive and appeared irritated with what we believed to be very relevant questions to our situation. She abruptly terminated the consultation after 20 minutes stating that she was not going to answer any further questions, indicating that we needed to leave. We were ushered out.

Having reflected upon the meeting we felt as though Gill was out of her depth answering what we thought to be fairly standard questions regarding wills that a competent will writer should know.

Interestingly, research indicates that you need no qualifications to become a will writer, so perhaps we should have sought the advice of a solicitor?

Will we back (no pun intended), no of course not!

Brilliant team to use as a first time buyer. (Especially Gemma!) Explained everything clearly and answered all my questions. Sometimes a bit slow in communication but I think that’s because they were progressing things in the background without bothering me.
