Avoid at All Costs - Dreadful Communication

We used Parfitt Cresswell (Reading) for conveyancing on a flat in Dec 2024. Our solicitor, Robert, was shockingly uncommunicative. Weeks would go by with zero updates. We had to chase every time just to get a response. He ignored emails, missed promised deadlines, and always blamed being “busy.”

I raised concerns about this twice, on 31 Jan and 29 Mar, and nothing improved. From 17 April to 5 June, we heard nothing at all. When we informed them we were pulling out, they replied with a progress update, the irony.

We were also assigned a trainee, Abbie, who was copied into every email but provided no proactive support or follow through either.

Robert did give some sound legal advice at a few points, but legal insight means very little when it’s buried under a mountain of miscommunication, passivity, and neglect.

If you’re a first-time buyer or value basic communication, do not use this firm. They made a stressful process even worse. I’d strongly advise others to stay away.

Excellent service from Jo Martin and her assistant Mandy Hinton at the Reading office on the sale of my elderly mother's house. Since neither party was in a chain, exchange and completion happened smoothly within just a couple of weeks. Communication was good and I would certainly recommend Jo and Mandy.
