Hired them to do what seemed a relatively easy probate, the deceased didn’t leave a will so it went into intestacy, our family with no contention towards how anything would be distributed so we imagined it’d be relatively straightforward.
Carrie Duncan was the solicitor assigned to our case and it blew me away with the amount of indifference, incompetence and sometimes utter contempt she and her firm showed during this rough time for us.
Deadlines missed, phone calls skipped, circular emails with no progression whatsoever, constant deferring to a paralegal who always said she had to refer back to Carrie for pretty much everything. The probate took 18 months to “complete” (poorly). All the while her and her gang of cowboys charging an arm and leg for the privilege of being treated this way. If it wasn’t happening in front of my own eyes I would not had believed it. Shocking, shocking, shocking.
We picked them because of their proximity to us in Streatham and we thought it’d be good to have a local solicitor for a personal touch. Not once, and I mean this literally, did they invite us into their branch for even a cup of coffee during this rough time and whole 18 month protracted process. Not at the beginning to welcome us, not in the middle to explain why it was taking as long as it did, not at the sorry end to apologise personally. Nothing.
Eventually they offered a meagre discount on the legal fees as a tacit admission of their own incompetence, delays and general failings.
Thank you soooo very much for that kindness, guys (sarcasm).
If you are looking for a competent probate lawyer avoid at all costs.

The buyer solicitors were very relaxed about the sale but Stephen kept the pressure on. Two years later there is monies to be returned to us. Find that a bit shocking.
