Avoid at All Costs – A Truly Frustrating Experience
I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to share my experience to help others avoid the stress and disappointment I went through.
Over a six-month!! property purchase (with no chain either end) with Bassets, I received just two emails within the first 5 months. One was a response I had to force after four unsuccessful attempts to get an update by phone—only by refusing to hang up did I finally get an answer. The other was to inform me I needed to extend my mortgage offer, as they would not complete within the original four-month window.
I was sent the contract with instructions to call and pay the deposit and fees. When I called, the staff were unaware I’d even been sent the contract, though they still took the payment.
Email updates were non-existent. After receiving no reply to two emails, I reached out to the seller’s estate agent, who emailed Bassets and received a response within 20 minutes—something I was never afforded as a paying client.
Despite signing contracts and paying funds, I was told the purchase couldn’t complete due to a missing document. I received no communication from Bassets, and only after the seller’s agent stepped in was it revealed that the document wasn’t missing at all—it was a post-completion document. The delay was completely unnecessary.
Throughout the process, whenever I did get through to someone, they seemed to have no idea what was going on and would always say, “I’ll look into it and call you back.” That call back never came. I was consistently treated like I was a nuisance for simply asking for updates.
The amount of stress caused by this level of disorganisation and lack of communication was overwhelming. I would strongly advise anyone considering using Bassets to look elsewhere. This was by far the most unprofessional experience I’ve had.

My wife Amanda and I instructed Bassets for a house purchase in Cornwall. Stephanie Charlesworth was appointed as our conveyancer. The whole process from start to completion has been exemplary. Every staff member at Bassets has been extremely friendly and helpful . They are so thorough and professional. I would definitely recommend these solicitors to anyone and would use again if we ever move. 5 stars 10/10 100% great service.

My partner and I just bought our first home with the help of Bassets Solicitors. Amber dealt with most of our case and she was exceptional. She was available to answer all of our questions, she was patient and explained everything to us at every stage to ensure we understood exactly what was going on, which really put us at ease as nervous first time buyers. We also had input from Tracey and Stephanie during periods of leave and they were equally as good. We completed our purchase in 4 months from offer acceptance and Bassets made our experience as stress free as possible and we cannot thank them enough!
