Nothing is worse than being accused of a crime, especially as a working professional who has wide interactions working across complex systems. In a case that I initially thought was mistaken identity, it soon ballooned into ID theft and account hijacking. The evidence was set against me, which would leave anyone feeling attacked, paranoid and terrified.

Alex Chowdhury worked very hard to prevent me from being manipulated by police, protecting my interests and shielding me from excessive questionning. I had already experienced the "free" solicitor the police had assigned me on my initial arrest. I can best describe that solicitor - who was NOT an MM solicitor - as rude, lazy, inept and disinterested.

Even without this comparison, Mary Monson Solicitors 1st impressions was a professional and empathetic operation.

It was an exceptionally difficult time when my desire for justice and a fair hearing conflicted with legal advice, as the system is set against defendants from the get-go. Fortunately, Alex was calmly able to explain the most appropriate course of action, and to steer me along the wisest path. Even though it will feel like you're not getting your message across to police, Alex Chowdhury's experience speaks volumes about how the system actually is, and when and what should be spoken.

My situation was worsened by a chronic health condition, and then the loss of a loved one. Police of course are not sympathetic but opportunististic, but Alex was calm and empathetic. It was reliance on his judgement that got me through this terrible time. Even when police proved disorganised and disrespectful of his time, cancelling a 9am interview without notice after Alex had travelled many hours at the crack of dawn to be present with me. He remained level-headed and cooperated efficiently with police to re-schedule for another day. This saved me from being sat in custody for hours on end whilst a duty officer caught themselves up on the case. This one experience was exhausting, but an example of how Alex Chowdhury maintained his professionalism when the same courtesy was not extended to us.

MM solicitors appeal was not just in the quality of their solicitors, but their method of billing. I paid a one-off sum with no hidden fees or extra charges. This covered the time needed to handle the case to its conclusion with the CPS - regardless of police cancellations and constant rescheduling - meaning I did not have to fear the costs spiralling out of control.

When after nearly 2 years the CPS decided NFA, I was delighted but also an emotional wreck. I'm glad I didn't have to fear any final bills, as everything along the way had been paid for in the initial invoice.

After the NFA decision, Alex even helped apply some pressure to the police when they stated they did not have my laptop that they had seized 2 years prior, and the paperwork that they had issued me to support this assertion was "wrong and different from their copy." Police shut me down immediately. But a quick appeal to Alex and suddenly the non-existent laptop did exist afterall due to a reference number error. Police even dropped it off at my house! I attribute this outcome to Alex's singular polite but firm intervention.

Given how the system is set against defendents, and police use every manipulation and advantage to tip the scales in their favour, Alex Chowdhury did a tidy, professiobal job which he executed precisely as agreed and with the empathy needed to reassure his frazzled client. I appreciate every effort he made right up to the last, including to ensure my family photos on that laptop were returned to me. Though he could not force police to be more organised, efficent or professional, these qualities in Alex Chowdhury ensured I was given the best odds for a favourable outcome.
