We recently used Thomson & Bancks' services in the selling of our property. We found them to be professional & efficient. They guided & kept us fully informed throughout, which made the whole process very straightforward. We would definitely use them again & would highly recommend.

I dealt with Paul Johnson for quite some time and I found him to be very fair and considerate with the extremely complex employment details he was presented with relating to an invisible disability.

Over time they supported me extremely well with the relevant actions & documents required at different points.

I also grew to know Wendy his secretary exceptionally well and she was a great support to me too - thank goodness for this support.

I would highly recommend Thomson & Bancks because Paul was an extremely good employment solicitor, showed sympathy but more importantly really listened to some very complex medical details which supported the whole case.

The following review reflects my personal opinion.

Our experience with this firm was very upsetting. My elderly grandparents used Thomson & Bancks to make their wills and appointed the firm as executors to their estates, thinking they were in safe hands. When they died, the firm refused to act as executors in either case, but then charged the estate several hundred pounds for standing down. Not only that, but they refused to release the original wills and other documentation, which we had provided them with in good faith, until we as beneficiaries paid their invoice, thus preventing us from obtaining probate and settling the estate before having to find the funds to pay them.

I specifically asked what their charges would be during the initial consultation, but was not given the answer and instead I was told that these would be explained in their correspondence after the event. Little did I know, they were already billing us for this meeting, but refusing to explain their fees.

At no point did Thomson & Bancks detail their reasons for renouncing probate. The only up side was that we had to seek advice from another law firm, which only charged a fraction of the costs that we would have incurred had we used Thomson & Bancks to settle the estate. When I tried to raise the issue with Thomson & Bancks over the phone, they hung up on me!

I would not trust this firm to make me a cup of tea (for fear they'd invoice me for it a week later), never mind to handle my financial affairs, and our family will not be using them in the future.
